Located in the heart of Berkeley California is The Butchers Son, an all vegan butcher and delicatessen. They serve amazing vegan comfort food ranging from pancakes, doughnuts, to sandwiches, salads and desserts. Their meats and cheeses are all house made.
My family and I wanted to check this place out to see what all the hype was about. When we arrived the line was about a mile out the door. It was insane! We reviewed the menu while standing in line. I was pleased to see that there was so much to choose from.
Here’s what we ordered. Be forewarned that some of the items we ordered are no longer available as their menu changes regularly.
Something Fishy is basically the vegan version of battered fish. It’s made of jack fruit served with lemon and tartar sauce It was delicious! $7.50
Bacon Cheese Burger was very satisfying. The patty’s texture was similar to that of a beef burger. It was served with a side of veggies. My niece and her parents loved this burger. $12.50
Mushroom Blue Cheese Burger with Fried Onions this item is currently not on their menu. However, we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Tuna Melt is served on sourdough bread with jack fruit tuna, slices of tomatoes and topped with avocado. As our side we ordered their popular bacon macaroni salad. My sister loved this dish $12.95
Classic BLT is served on sourdough bread with the most realistic vegan bacon I’ve ever had, lettuce and tomatoes. I ordered it with a side of their mashed potatoes. I could not believe this was vegan. This was by far the best item on their menu for me. Unfortunately, this item is no longer on their menu.
Chicken Parm is served on a french roll, with marinara sauce topped with fried chicken, mozarella and parm. My brother in law loved it! $12.50
We saved the best for last, dessert. We ordered cannoli’s, doughnuts and vegan twix. I highly recommend them all.
The Butcher’s Son is a vegan gem in Berkley, CA. If you are ever in the area, stop by you won’t regret it.
