As Earth day approaches I wanted to share some easy ways you can live more eco-friendly. Implementing these simple tips can make a huge impact on the health of our planet. Help spread awareness and encourage your loved ones to use eco-friendly products. The world needs all the good you can do.
01: Reusable water bottle such as hydroflask or a glass bottle.
Plastic water bottles have become the standard when it comes to convenience. However, plastic bottles pose great harm to our health and to the environment. The chemicals in the plastic leach into the water which can interfere with hormones in the body. As an alternative, I use a hydroflask bottle or a mason jar. My hydroflask is like my third arm. It goes with me everywhere I go. It keeps your water cold for many hours and it’s BPA free. If you don’t have one definitely snag one. Water is life girl. That’s all Jennifer Lopez drinks and who doesn’t want to look like her.
02: Glass or stainless steel tupperware.
My family and I opt for glass tupperware. They are safer than plastic, better for the earth, and they don’t stain or absorb any smells. We use ours for lunches, picnics and to store leftovers.
03: Reusable straws.
Plastic straws are one of the many things that pollute our oceans and pose a great threat to our sea life. It’s also bad for your health because of the chemicals in the plastic. A sustainable options is to invest in a glass or stainless steel straw or you can opt for no straw at all. When you’re at that restaurant and are offered a straw please decline. Think about our sea life especially those beautiful honu (sea turtles). Breaks my heart to know that they ingest straws or when I see photos of them with straws stuck in their nose. Say no to plastic straws.
04: Reusable tote bag
Did you know that it can take 10 to 1,000 year for plastic bags to decompose? That’s crazy! It sits in the landfill or ends up in the ocean. Bringing a tote bag can reduce the plastic bag pollution epidemic. Keep a few stored in your truck so you have them on hand anytime you need them.
05: Reusable cleaning cloths
Millions of trees are cut down forcing tons of wildlife to leave their homes. Instead of using paper towels opt for reusable cleaning cloths instead. They last a long time, saving you tons of money and of course it’s better for the earth. I cut up towels and old t-shirts and use those for cleaning. I have also bought the cleaning cloths linked and have found them to be very useful for cleaning all surfaces.
06: Bidet
When my wife came home with a bidet I was a little hesitant, I’m not going to lie. But after months of using it we have significantly reduced our consumption of toilet paper. Yes you read that right. We do not buy toilet paper anymore! Say what?! I know it’s sounds crazy, but you have to try it. The bidet linked is the model we have. Since having it, we have done our part in saving tress and a bonus, my toosh is so fresh and so clean clean. Are you going to give it a try?
07: Berkey water filter
If you were going to pick one thing out of this list to try, I would highly recommend investing in a Berkey water filter. It filters out bacteria, fluoride, viruses, arsenic, pharmaceuticals, and much more. We no longer buy water bottles and we don’t pay a hefty amount for water service. My family and I drink a lot of water and we have the Big berkey. It’s the perfect size. This is extremely cost effective, it’s portable, and the water tastes so fresh, it’s amazing.
That’s it folks. These are some simple ways you can help keep our planet beautiful today and for future dwellers.
